Elvis Costello references are not just welcome but encouraged.
Oh, Allison.
Otherwise known as a chronicle of the (mis)adventures of a latter-day Dona Quixote.
It took me a few internship seasons, but now that I have a better understanding of how to supervise interns, I love having them. It’s symbiotic. They help me so much, and I’m happy I can help them learn skills that will help them in their career.
My new intern started today, and since it was my first time meeting her, I wanted to give her a welcome hug. But I wasn’t paying attention, and we accidentally knocked over my glass of water and cup of coffee like so many liquid dominoes. She felt embarrassed, which made me feel terrible, since, of course, this is nothing unusual for me and I’m sure I had more of a hand in it than her. I tried to reassure her that I do things like that all the time and that my nickname is klutzman, so she shouldn’t worry at all - with the subtext hopefully coming through that I like people even better if they happen to be a little clumsy.
So, we’ve already worked as a team, oh-allison style. Something tells me that she and I are gonna get along just fine this summer!
